The 4th annual event, The Sun Valley Road Rally, supports an important cause, keeping local youth drug and alcohol free. You are guaranteed to get a 'for-fun' speeding ticket from our sheriff and you are guaranteed to have a great time! Last year, Aston Martins, Ferraris, Porsches, and the like pushed speeds of 190 mph and a great time was had by all. The course is a 3.2 mile section of Highway 75, which includes a soft, banked 90 degree gentle slope-climbing corner, followed by a straight section downhill past the grandstands, to a the final third of the course reserved for slowing down and entering the turnout area at the end. Drivers who run a second or third run are returned to the course start at the appropriate time to improve on their runs; most drivers elect to go multiple times and most are return drivers from previous years. Safety is our highest priority with a full complement of sheriffs' staff and fire and rescue teams. Each driver's car is required to go through a safety inspection and drivers will receive a "tech talk" with Johnny Unser during the drivers luncheon on Friday.

Some exciting changes for 2012 include:

  • Gala event on Saturday evening featuring dinner, live and silent-auctions, and live music
  • Drivers luncheon on Friday at the Sun Valley Auto Club
  • Tiered grandstands for spectators
  • A larger marketing effort to Southern Idaho residents (with an expectation of 600-900 spectators)
  • Porsche North America sponsorship with a unique street-drive course, created by Porsche professional drivers, designed primarily for drivers and their family members and extra slots available to gala dinner guests
  • Large banner materials for the sponsors on the outside of the highway for the straightaway portion, to mimic more of a NASCAR-type event
  • A Saturday morning concourse, which will give spectators a chance to see the cars close-up, meet the drivers, and get autographs from Johnny Unser

 

This year we are thrilled to have Sun Valley Company and Porsche Cars North America as our premier event sponsors. The event begins on Friday, July 27th with driver technical inspections, and a driver's luncheon at the Sun Valley Auto Club. Drivers who commit to three runs receive two (2) complimentary tickets to the gala on Saturday evening.

The event will be capped at sixty drivers and we anticipate we will be close to filling all the slots this year, so please contact us if you desire to participate. The event is taking on a certain 'club atmosphere' and our sense is we will continue to develop a tight-knit group of drivers who are fun and relaxed and look forward to returning again and again.
